Grow dat shit

While everyone was either bitching about the weather not being perfect, being a consumer at the crowded malls, or curled up watching TV at home, I used this gloomy afternoon as an opportunity to give my garden some attention. In the Fall I filled my garden space with bok choi, okrah, broccoli, mint, bell peppers, lots of yummy kale, spinach, spring onion, and grape tomatoes. I also planted some zinnia flowers for decorative purposes and a shitload of local letttuce lettuce: manoa leaf and a no ka oi blend. For months the garden flourished and made many of my meals extra ono. But now the plants were all pau and it was time for me to pull dat make shit. So my roommate and I went Walmart this morning bought some seeds and fertilizer to get this party started. I threw on some jams and we started uprooting all of last seasons vegetables. We got all pilau tilling up the earth adding fertilizer to make the soil prime for its new little seedlings. With a little more strategy than last time, today we planted our garden with zucchini, spinach (different strain than last time), yellow zucchini (they try call it squash), butter leaf lettuce, no ka oi blend lettuce (it has that name for one reason), and green beans (pole kind). I gave it a good water and I can't wait for the seeds to sprout and da veggies to grow! Growing a garden, even if its a small one, is such a rewarding experience and I think that every household should maintain one. No matter the size or what you like plant in em, a garden can save you alot of kala and it gives you great opportunity to aloha aina. So go plant a fucking garden.
